Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring spoons
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • Unsalted Butter adds creaminess and balances the heat. Vegan Butter can be used for its dairy-free version.
  • Hot Sauce: Frank’s Red Hot is the traditional fish sauce but you can use your favourite hot sauce for more or less heat.
  • Honey: The star ingredient! You can substitute maple syrup or agave nectar for a slightly different sweetness.
  • Garlic Powder: Adds depth to the flavour. You can use fresh minced garlic if preferred.
  • Onion Powder: Enhances the savoury elements of the sauce.
  • Paprika: A smoky flavour complements the sweet and spicy combo.
  • Salt: A pinch of salt brings all the flavours together.

Instructions

  • Melt the Butter: Melt the Butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add Hot Sauce: When the butter melts and mix it in. Whisk until combined.
  • Mix in the Honey: Add the honey and continue whisking. The honey will balance out the spice from the hot sauce.
  • Add Seasonings: Add the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt. Stir well and let the sauce simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavours to blend.
  • Serve or Store: Remove the sauce from the heat once the sauce thickens slightly. You can use it immediately or store it in a jar for later.

Notes

Tips and Tricks:

  • Avoid Overheating: Don’t let the sauce boil, which causes the Butter to separate.
  • Adjust the Spice: Taste the sauce as you make it, and adjust the hot sauce or honey levels to suit your preference.
  • Use Fresh Honey: Quality honey will give the sauce a smoother, richer sweetness.

Storage and Reheating Instructions:

  • Storing: Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Reheating: Reheat the sauce over low heat in a saucepan, stirring occasionally, or microwave in short intervals, stirring in between.
